Cathedral of St. Nicholas
Vienna in Winter

Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Vienna
Russian Orthodox Church
Diocese of Vienna and Austria
of the Patriarchate of Moscow

St. Nicholas Cathedral
I had an appointment in the Third District
and was half an hour early, so I decided to walk
from Stadtpark up along the tracks of the S-Bahn
towards the Rennbahn entrance of the Belvedere,
and this was the sight I encountered
about halfway up the tracks.

St. Nicholas Cathedral
Looking up from one of the access ramps
to the S-Bahn Rennweg station.
Almost high noon and a brilliant winter sun
illuminated the cathedral against the blue sky.
I felt as if in a Russian fairytale.

  1. It definitely looks like in fairytale. So beautiful !

  2. You have been sneaking around near me today!

  3. Gorgeous. Architecture is one of humankind's greatest arts.

  4. Renata,
    indeed! :-)

    I did. Yesterday! ;-)

    Charles Gramlich,
    I agree!
I wonder how many tourists know about this cathedral.
I discovered it by chance one day, walking from the Belvedere's Alpine Garden, down to Rennweg through the Botanical Gardens. Suddenly I spied these golden domes, as if I were in Kiev.

  5. All that gold gleaming against the clear blue sky is very beautiful. And the other details and colors amazing too. Quite an appealing sight.

  6. Sara,
it is truly a sight to behold!

  12. Wonderful photos ! Yes, it is like a Russian Fairy Tale !

  13. These are ideal angles to photograph the church from. It really is beautiful!

  14. No one knows how to make churches like the Orthodox!
