Words are flowing out
Like endless rain into a paper cup

They slither wildly
As they slip away across the universe.

Images of broken light
Which dance before me like a million eyes

They call me on
And on across the universe

Thoughts meander like a restless wind
Inside a letter box

They tumble blindly
As they make their way across the universe

I took these pictures Tuesday,
on a densely gray, low-light afternoon,
while walking from the First District, Julius-Raab-Platz,
crossing the Vienna river via Aspern bridge to Nestroyplatz,
Zirkusgasse, Rotensterngasse, and Grossse Pfarrgasse,
in the Second District (Leopoldstadt)

Earlier in the day,
I had passed an empty lot,
off Mariahilfer Strasse in the 7th District,
where a building has been torn down recently.

I stopped for a moment to read the graffiti
on one of the walls that border the construction site.
to read what I discovered there.

Nothing's Gonna Change My World
Words are flowing out
Like endless rain
Into a paper cup

Lyrics are
from the above song by
The Beatles.

  1. This was a lovely post. I adore the subtle shades of gray. And I love a gray fall day like it is here today, too. I love the way the autumn leaves look against a gray sky even more than blue. Now I must play my Beatles album!

  2. Lovely post ! And the song of The Beatles is very nice...
    Beautiful photos !

  3. Oh, well, what can I say? I'm a huge Beatles fan, and found myself singing along with this as I scrolled through these moody, wonderful images...works for me!
    Jai guru deva!

  4. Lyrical and beautiful as always..In india, we are celebrating the festival of lights, Deepavali now

  5. You made gray look beautiful and now I have two songs in my head...

  6. I like the graffiti and the optimism of the bloke (or blokess) who wrote it.

  7. willow,
walking along those streets, with that Beatles song in my ear, I simply enjoyed the sights along the way, especially the many colors there were, nonetheless.

Have fun with the Beatles album! :-)

    merci beaucoup! :-)

Lovely post ! And the song of The Beatles is very nice...
    Beautiful photos !
    Fat, frumpy and fifty,
    thank you! :-)

    A Brush with Color,
well, I had done the same, only my feet had to carry me through the streets, but it was a wonderful walk! ;-)

    Thank you,
    and happy Deepavali to you!

    Rambling Woods,
    isn't it a wonderful world?
(Now, that gives us a third song, doesn't it?)

yes, so do I! He or she made me stop and reflect, and I carried that melody with me all day long. I wished I could thank him or her! :-)
(Did you notice the graffiti along the retaining wall in the pictures of the Wien river?)

  8. Meloncholy indeed. Grey is the color of the Pacific Northwest here from about November until June...

  9. Sounds of laughter, shades of life are ringing through my opened ears
    Inciting and inviting me...

You might be interested in my last but one post on Rishikesh. There is a bit about Beatles in it. Have a lovely day!

  10. Hello Merisi,
Lovely gray post today, filled with thought provoking words and photographs. While reading this, I was reminded of the power of our words. That we might remember to guard our tongs, that our words have the power to bless or destroy.

    Sending good thoughts your way.
Happy Autumn to you and yours!

  11. The hotel looks inviting. I guess I have stayed in places like that during my wandrings.

  12. I always thought gray days were necessary so we could easily see the contrast with the blues ones. Hope you had an enjoyable trip.

  13. There's magic in your camera...I think it's name is maryanne...I could be wrong but I doubt it. Lovely use of existing music and new art work...

  14. Dear Merisi,
Your post left me with a smile and a wonderful song going through my head. Thanks!

  15. I love grey in decoration but I hate it outside , in the sky , in my mind...

  16. One of my most favourite songs EVER!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a note.
