Café Weimar
Coffee in Style
and with a Smile

A Spot by the Window
where the light is bright
and soothing at the same time

A Choice of Cozy Upholstery
or stylish Thonet chair

Where All the News
are still in print
and portable
on a well-turned wooden stick

Essential
A glass of water
on a silver tray,
sugar cubes and
a small jug of milk

It's still so early
in the morning,
it is teatime for M -
coffee can wait!

Max
The Coffee-Coloured Wiener dog
Born in the USA,
but he has learned
to love hanging out in Kaffeehäuser -
ein echter Wiener eben!

Not in the Picture:
The friendly cheerful waiter,
who reaffirmed once again my hunch
that "The Grumpy Viennese Waiter"
is but well-coddled Viennese lore:
I have yet to find one.

  1. Gorgeous pictures, Merisi, but it's Max who's stolen my heart! He looks right at home here, as you say, this well-travelled habitué of Viennese kaffeehauser.

  3. Even a glass of water gets a silver tray. That's fine dining.

  5. My mother visited Germany years ago and was enchanted by the beautiful little long-haired dachshunds in nice restaurants, waiting quietly under their owner's chairs. What a beauty Max is!

  6. Love, love, LOVE dear, sweet Max! I grew up with dachshunds......such wonderful dogs and great companions.

My brother-in-law is taking my sister-in-law to Vienna for their 25th wedding anniversary in the spring. I've sent them a link to your site because there's no better place to learn about the true comings and goings of your beautiful city.

    Happy Sunday, Merisi!

  12. A lovely post from Merisi, as always... though I'm not hugely impressed by the BBC correspondent. Rather an obvious report.
