Dreaming of drinking Coffee elsewhere
Café-Konditorei Zauner in Bad Ischl

Waking up
300 km from where
you'd thought you'd be
the evening before

The morning sweetened
with rock candy
and brightened by sunshine

A pot of Earl Grey
and what is - for my taste -
the best croissant
in the whole wide world,
Zauner's Ischler Kipferl:
Golden buttery brioche layers
rolled with roasted ground hazelnuts.
Austrian pâtissiers are masters at
this kind of pastry,
Zauner's creation
is one of the best I have ever tasted

Café-Konditorei Zauner
Bad Ischl
Upper Austria

Dear Readers,
a repost, and I hope you won't mind, sitting down again,
in this beautiful place, and letting time slip by
without looking at the clock.
I repost this particular post because lately I have been
particularly nostalgic for a morning visit to Zauner's in Bad Ischl.
I even contemplated getting into the car.
After all, Bad Ischl is but a three hours drive away. ;-)
A wonderful day to all of you,
and thank you for taking this imaginary trip down
memory lane with me,

  1. It's been way too long since I've been to Ischl. I miss Zaunerstollen.

  2. Elisabeth,
I go wild for their Strawberry Napoleon!
How about going their on Sunday? ;-)

  3. Gawd one wonders however you decide where to go each day?
    A plethora of choices!
One might be driven to go back to the same ole, same ole
and order the same ole, same ole...
    I know I would...

  4. ParisBreakfasts:
Carol, you are right, it is tough, indeed! ;-)

  5. The lady in the first photo is carrying grapes. Do they serve wine as well? Maybe the sweet ice wine to go with the desserts?
P.S. I had a bit of Vienna in my Friday's post.
    Have a lovely weekend, Merisi.

  6. Bonjour Mme Kaffee Hause!
    You have big problems...hmmm
    You have my sympathies here

  7. I so enjoy a good Croisant with a cup of hot Earl Grey Lavender tea and this one looks like one that I would enjoy very much.

  8. I would simply ADORE knowing how you got those buttons in your Blog footer...
    But no Pinterest button there???
    pourquoi pas?

  9. Sounds like a bit surprise and you are making my mouth water.

  10. Zosia,
    they serve wine, off course!
I can't think of any coffee house without wine, at least not in Austria. ;-)

Spritzer season is upon as again, what with temperatures in the 80s today.

if you like hazelnuts (filberts), you'll love this croissant! Zauner "invented" it the "Zauner Kipferl", as far as I know.

  11. Barbara,
    the best surprise imaginable! ;-)

  12. Paris Breakfasts:
Carol, I spent the better part of last weekend working on my blog's template. I am glad, though, because the new Blogger interface is FABULOUS!

And there is a Pinterest button, and a Twitter button,
in the right column. Found it?

  13. woooooooo ! Austrian Pastries ! An earl grey... (I like ! ) In Bad Ischl...(Sissi has a castle in Bad Ischl, the Kaiservilla, wonderful place ! ) I follow you at Konditorei Zauner, what a beautiful café patisserie, and so délicious...

  15. Repost beauty over and over, we'll never get tired...

  16. What quiet elegance, what soft light! And certainly an Austrian and not French croissant on the plate :) !

    1. The croissant is a Viennese invention, after all. Amongst the many varieties, the Zauner croissant is one of the best.

    2. You have taught me something - I should have known, but 90% of people asked, I am certain, would point to France :) !

  17. Such elegance! Your description of the croissant tempts me to go to this lovely place straight away! A blog visit with you is the next best thing!

    1. Definitely a place to visit, Relindis! :-)

Thank you for taking the time to leave a note.
