The colors in these are so rich...I especially love the teal doors and their intricate handles...you are a photographer extraordinaire...You continually find such amazing shots where those with an ordinary eye would find nothing!! You are simply superb!!! ~Janine XO

  4. Ah, so that is a linden tree...I have always wondered what the leaves look like. Their rounded shape is so lovely.

Those intricately designed door handles in the fourth photo are gorgeous...

  7. Merisi, not so long ago, I did write to you hoping that you and your computer would rejoin.

This post gives me reason to think that whatever might be going on with the computer, your eye and your camera are still very connected.

The photos are beautiful, the light is expressed so well. Like another commenter, I was not so sure what a linden tree was.

Thank you for all of it! xo

  9. @ Sara,
linden trees are immensely beautiful in every season. Their heart-shaped leaves fill me with wonder.

    @ Cheffie-Mom,
I love how those handles pick up the grape theme (there are vineyards all around and I am quite sure that this is the entrance to a vintner's courtyard).

  10. @ Sniffles and Smiles,
thank you, you are a very generous friend! :-)
I dearly love that neighborhood, there are still strong echos of the village it was, back when Beethoven lived there during many a summer.

    Carol @ TheWritersPorch,
    thank you!
I went to Heiligenstadt to get some pictures of Beethoven's Heiligenstädter home, but it was closed, unfortunately. So I strolled a bit around the neighbourhood while the sun was setting in the west.

    @ Arija,
    thank you!
I experience the same joy when I visit your blog,
you capture your world so exquisitely with your images and prose!

  12. @ Vicki Lane,
they are among my favorites here in Vienna.

    @ lakeviewer,
thank you, so do I! :-)
I have taken pictures in June, while the linden trees around the square were blooming, with the air full of their fragrance (probably "had" - I am afraid they are part of the lot I stored on the kaputt hard drive).

    @ Frances,
in the meantime, I found out that my computer works well, it is my external hard drive instead, that Lacie - recommended so highly for its robustness - that does not work anymore. Thank heaven, for the last month or so, I stored my pictures on my Mac, except those that I took during my trip to Italy (where, by intuition, for the last few days in the Venetian Lagoon, I did not erase my camera's memory sticks anymore, thank heavens!).

I was for a few hours very sad, but then, nobody got hurt, and I lost only pictures, due to my own stupidity. I shall pick up the pieces and learn my lesson, hopefully: Always store photos thrice (yes, my friend - if you are reading this - I remember well how you tried to remind me of that lesson!).

    PLEASE, dear friends,
go and make those safety copies right now!

  13. @ ds,
grape and leaves turned so artfully into door handles:
I wonder who the craftsman was, probably a local one.

There's something very photogenic about doorways. I don't know why, obviously they hide what's inside but you like to think they give a clue to what's behind them.

  16. Ah, what lies behind those doors? Those grapes sure are tempting.

  17. Oh, so Heiligenstadt is quite green? Perfect, it happens to be the Endstation of my U-Bahn! (I'm slowly starting to visit Vienna, after 1 week of fighting to get a room, eventually getting a flat (ruin, but so cheap!) and spending a second week on trying to make it viable).

  18. Wow, I heard about and saw the linden tree for the first time. Flower vase is cute and the nicely carved door knobs look awesome! Nice pictures!
