Summer's Back: A Gespritzter at Café Una

Vienna is the world's only capital city with its own vineyards. A Gespritzter, half wine, often a Grüner Veltliner, and half soda water, is the ubiquitous summer drink. According to a January 2003 article in the British GUARDIAN, "Britain's 'cork dorks' have voted Austrian whites the best in the world": Austria took seven of the first 10 places, including the top four spots. First place was won by a 1990 Knoll Grüner Veltliner Smaragd from the Wachau region, about fifty miles west of Vienna, on the Danube river.
