  8. The pink is lovely, but the green background really caught my eye. What an intense, rich green. We don't see much dark, lush greens in Central Texas......captivating! Hope you have your camera with you while you're off having fun ;-)

  16. I love the ruffles . . . There are a few novels out about the tulip mania that gripped Holland several centuries ago.

  17. What a joy that must be, to see flowers on the tramway stop traffic island.

And how lovely they are, up close like this.

  20. Streetcar; tramway: words to inspire . . . gliding along together with the clip clop of the fiakers . . .

like the tulips (which look particularly pink, fresh-faced and happy to be there) inspire.

    A dream city.

PS: tut-tut: I noticed the books on early tulip mania - it certainly feels wonderful to go out and buy a bunch for 1.50 GBP after all that.

  23. A reply to Simon, if I may,

The internal combustion engine, wherever it is found, degrades the built environment, not to mention the living environment.

Trams and trolleybuses are relatively 'clean'. I know they run on electricity - and that means power stations - but the fact is that the emissions from power stations can be captured and reused so that they do not degrade the environment.

Wien it seems to me (with a few other cities I can think of and a few more I can think of that are catching on and catching up) seems to have really embraced this.

And look how beautiful it is and what a desirable place it is to live.

    (sigh)
