French Feast in Vienna
Café Le Bol

A quiet moment
great coffee

latent temptations
dreams within and beyond

and the sugar bowls,
always full

I have had breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, alone and in company,
many many times, and it was always a feast for the senses.
I love the service, the cuisine, the atmosphere, in quiet and in busy times
Tip: Walk by and make a reservation in person, ahead of time. You'll thank me.

  1. It's rare on this side of the Atlantic to find sugar cubes.

  2. Interesting. We walked past Le Bol today, took at look at the "uppityness" of the scene, and headed elsewhere for lunch. Maybe we'll return on a weekday. :)

    1. How would you define uppityness and by whom? I feel like being in a homey, welcoming place there. Granted, at the community table (which I love), it's elbow to elbow, but once seated, the bustle around magically retreats into the background. That's my experience and everyone else's of the many friends I have been there with. And as I said above, I also love slipping in there on my own, for a cup of coffee or/and an open-faced sandwich with smoked duck and a small salad. In short, a congenial place, in my experience.

    2. I can not speak to the congeniality of Le Bol. We just happened to be walking by at lunch time and saw lots of non-diverse people in expensive-looking attire gathered at the outside tables--not really our preferred scene. Perhaps just bum luck for us on the first day the sun was shining in almost a week and everyone was out, or, perhaps it's acceptable to not love all things Vienna. ;)

Yes, the coffee is very good, as is the atmosphere there.

I often marvel that one woman should have so many cups of coffee, so many pastries and so much fun in just one lifetime.

  5. I would go for the smoked duck alone, but of course a coffee

    1. Me too, I am addicted to their Tartine Landaise:
Smoked duck breast, honey with caraway, orange slices, and grapes,
with a small salad on the side. Great value for the money.
