Some sudden Morning
Magic Moments at Schönbrunn Park

The Lightness of Being
The Palm House
in Schönbrunn Park
some sudden morn ...

In to Lunch
Building site hut

Caretaker's House
Wisteria-framed window

The Palm House
Sans eccentricity

Delight is as the flight—
Or in the Ratio of it,
As the Schools would say—
The Rainbow's way—
A Skein
Flung colored, after Rain,
Would suit as bright,
Except that flight
Were Aliment—

"If it would last"
I asked the East,
When that Bent Stripe
Struck up my childish
Firmament—
And I, for glee,
Took Rainbows, as the common way,
And empty Skies
The Eccentricity—

And so with Lives—
And so with Butterflies—
Seen magic—through the fright
That they will cheat the sight—
And Dower latitudes far on—
Some sudden morn—
Our portion—in the fashion—
Done—

  1. I would like to visit this estate, and the Palm House is wonderful. Even the bright yellow of the worker's shed is cheerful. I am far away from Vienna, in California.

    1. California is such a beautiful place, but I imagine there is some different beauty around here to be found that you might enjoy!

  3. Is this the Park of the Schönbrunn Palace? Unfortunately when we were in Vienna some years ago, I ended up with influenza, so stayed on the river boat and didn't visit the palace.

    1. Yes, this is the park of Schönbrunn Palace!
So sorry you missed it - hope you can come back and enjoy the extensive gardens.
In the summer months, a walk right after the gates open at 6 AM, is magical. I love it through all seasons, though.

  4. The park looks very neat and tidy. I like the wisteria around the caretaker's house and gladioli in vases by the window. I suspect that the worker's hut would get very hot as the sun comes up. Wandering around in the early morning must be the best time of all for enjoying the garden.

    1. Yes, Linda, early morning is the best of times on hot summer days!
Isn't it admirable how the workers managed to create such a homey atmosphere in their temporary shelter?

(The palm house is not open yet when I walk through the park in the early morning.)
