Visiting Mozart on a Sunday Morning
St. Marx when the Lilacs bloom

Sunday Morning
at St. Marx Cemetery

The sun has not yet
reached the Mozart Memorial,

but the view from there
is already in bright sunshine

Lilacs are in bloom
all over the cemetery

filling the space
with color,

their fragrance wafting
through the air

The cemetery of St. Marx
was closed 135 years ago, in 1874,
yet to this day in mid-April
the hundreds of lilac bushes lining its walkways
and leaning over gravestones and memorials
turn this quiet place alive with a chorus of colours,
showering it in shades of lavender.

  2. Merisi, thank you so much for these lilac photographs. The scent surrounding these vintage lilac bushes must be exquisite. I also love all the colorful varieties of lilacs.

Did you ever visit the Lilac chocolate shop in Greenwich Village? Another splendid place ... I'm not sure if it's still in business, but know that it did move to a new location some years ago.

  3. What a wonderful, historical old place and the lilacs are gorgeous!! I think I can smell their fragrance from here -- yes, I do have a vivid imagination, but your wonderful captures do carry the scent! Hope you have a lovely week, Merisi! Thanks, as always, for sharing the beauty!!

Was für ein Vergnügen, wieder deine Posts zu lesen. Sie sind immer so voller Poesie und Leichtigkeit. Und man entdeckt auch als Wienerin immer wieder neue zauberhafte Plätzchen!

  5. It looks more like a lush garden than a cemetery. Someone must be caring for it. Lovely photos, as usual. It was nice to hear from you again...it's been a long time. And your posts, I've found, are as exquisite as they always were!

  6. What a delight! My grandparent's house was next to a cemetery that had a hedge of lilac around it. some really great memories.
