Skipping into Spring?
Viennese Encounters

I was trying to photograph
the iron gates of Palais Liechtenstein
when all of a sudden

a lively gaggle of children
passed me by,

skipping merrily into spring -
or so I hoped

  1. Perfectly nice pictures, but why so small? The first I like.

    1. Inna,
this is the large size, but they enlarge considerably when you click on them:
the pictures will be shown in the larger size in a black light box.
      Hope that works for you,
      cheers,
      Merisi

    2. Inna,
larger pictures do not reflect how I want my posts to look. I like to play both with words and images, and in my eyes, the result works better when the post can first be seen and read as a whole. Enlarging afterwards gives the composition a little extra point.

    3. I agree here, Merisi. My posts are both text and images, and I like them to be considered in their entirety. To have a certain 'style' to them that reflects me and how I see my world.

  2. "skipping into spring" , their purple hats - harbingers of the first spring crocuses.

    1. Indeed! Such happy noises, too. And did you notice the dad carrying an armful of clothing? These scenes are repeated all over town, after school, not only in Vienna, I suppose.

  4. Spring has been elusive here in Oxfordshire
Perhaps if I skip round the village green...
    What do you think?

  5. Totally gorgeous ironwork, Merisi. Is that a 'painted' colour or just corroded metal?

    1. Julie,
      interesting question, intriguing colour!
Definitely not corroded. Those picture were taken in bright sunlight, on sunless days the gates look much darker. Next time I am there, I'll investigate the colour a bit more!

    2. P.S.: Maybe it's patina, after all? Now you have me stumped, Julie, I won't be able to sleep! Just kidding, will definitely look into it,
      good night from Vienna,

  6. The sun is shining but it must be quite cold, judging by the way everyone is so warmly bundled up.

    Beautiful color, those gates!

    1. Sara,
you are right, it was still freezing cold on April 4, when I captured these images.
It has warmed up considerably since then, thank heavens!
      Cheers,
      Merisi

  8. Nice to see the children full of the joys of Spring. Hope you are in the same mood, Merisi! The fan-shaped image in the first photo seems to mirror the arch and ironwork of the gate. I can't work out if it's a glass reflection or you can see through the gate to something in the distance. Intriguing.

    1. Linda,
this is one of the windows on the side opposite the entrance. You see both a reflection and one of the entrance doors. I have another picture, will publish it one of the coming days. The entrance and windows of the palace are breathtakingly beautiful.

Yes, I feel much better, now that the sun is out and temperatures are climbing!
      Cheers,
      Merisi
