Saint Ephraim's Syrian Orthodox Church
Vienna in Autumn

Saint Ephraim's Syrian Orthodox Church
Lainzer Strasse and Fasangartengasse
13th District

The church was rebuilt in 1736,
after the original one -
dating back to 1421 -

was heavily damaged during the two Turkish Sieges,
in 1529 and in 1683, and the ensuing Battle of Vienna

  1. You have so much history there!
I have visited only once Vienna when my cousin lived there.
She showed the oldest house of Vienna - small one between newer buildings :)

Sunny autumn days to you Merisi!

  3. Well, that church has withstood some history! I wonder if it is possible to photograph the interior, and if there is still a regular congregation after all the centuries.

The dappled light and shadows show what patterns nature can add to what we have built (and tried to destroy also, I sadly guess.)

  8. Beautiful shots! It must be wonderful to live where the 'new' church is centuries old.
