Coffee on my Mind
Viennese Moments

Red Lipstick
and a dreamy expression

Dreaming,
perchance, of hopping
on a red Vespa
and riding
to the next coffeehouse?

Asking for
un buon caffé con la panna?
Espresso with whipped cream,
that is.

Are you coming
along?

In the mood for a ride on a Vespa?
Watch these scenes from Nanni Moretti movies,
the great Italian actor director driving through Rome,
beyond the usual tourist destinations:
"Il Diario" (one of my favorite movies ever!) and
"Aprile" (with a "sweet" finale,
perfect with un caffé con la panna!).
Enjoy! :-)

  3. Thank you, Colores,
may you find a great cup of coffee!

The coffee in the picture was had by a friend of mine.

My panna days are over, but I have fond memories of sneaking caffé con panna at Café Latour in Rome, near the Ginori Store on Via Cola di Rienzo. Unfortunately, that place is long gone, but memories of their black coffee essence served in a cappuccino cup and then topped with the most delicious hand whipped cream ever will linger forever (and that early 20th Century interior, what a sin that it was destroyed!).

Btw, Italians never ever drink "espresso" coffee, it is simply "un caffé" - try that, the next time you are in Italy. The barista will almost take you for a native!

I will be in France soon and can send it to you from Paris.
Please leave your address in my Etsy shop.

  11. the vespa and the mannequin make me think of the movie, "Mannequin." That dreamy expression, I guess.

  12. Charles,
I'll have to look that movie up!

I realized only now - by chance - that I had typed "espression" - must have been the Italian in me who could not cope with the "x". *giggles*

I apologize to Nanni Moretti (and his fans)
for having erroneously attributed Nanni's movies to "Mario Moretti" - I have corrected the post.

  17. Merisi -
I've missed you! But the wonderful thing is that I can enjoy many posts at once when I return. I always call my husband in to look with me, and I say,"Now, let's take a walk through Vienna." I must e-mail you soon.

  18. I would love a ride on that red Vespa. Red is my favourite colour after all and riding through the streets on such a sassy bike would be an adventure.

  19. Good afternoon Merisi, the face looks a little bit like Joan Crawford, would you agree... The little red Vespa looks like it would be great fun along those narrow winding roads~ Have a delightful and safe week~

  28. After riding in numerous taxis in Rome, I would consider taking a Vespa through the streets of Rome suicide.

  29. Ola,
    it's one my favorite sights!

    Alan,
all those years living there, I never once dared to ride on a Vespa. Alas, most of my Roman friends think nothing of it. ;-)
