Writing In the Blue Hour

Napkin Prose

No safe place
For a blank piece of paper.

My answer to David McMahon's question,
"How do you look at a blank sheet of paper?"
posed yesterday under the tongue-in-cheek heading
"Blank Stair":
I stare it in the eye,
While I write on it,
And then shoot it.

  2. I have used napkins to make bird lists when I have forgotten my notebook!

  3. My mother used to collect paper weights. I think some of them are quite valuable now. They are really beautiful. Anyway sometimes I use them to keep paper in its place but more often I just keep them for decoration.
Maybe I should do a post on them.

  4. MAALIE:
    Napkins are very docile,
ready to serve a multitude of purposes. ;-)

    M.me L. Lama:
I am looking forward to your post about your mother's paper weights!
I own only one, the cut-glass one on my desk (a gift, from Tiffany). The one holding down the napkin is actually a sugar dispenser.

I look at this little white sheets rather sternly, and then I scribble away. :-)

If only I had your output!
Midwinter, I can't even begin to imagine. ;-)

    WILLOW:

  9. This is an "Off Topic Comment" but...I seem to have lost my knack for posting/commenting in 'Blog Land,' for a while. All I do lately, is put up a few photos, here and there. I didn't plan on it... It just happened.

And since I don't want anyone to think I got *uppity* or anything, :-) I'm leaving this comment, to explain my absence.

I'm sure to be back in not too long. Can't keep a "Chatty Person" quiet, for too long. :-)

  11. Blank sheets of paper are to be written on frequently and filled up with the prose of life, don't you agree?

  12. Blank pieces of paper are where I store thoughts when there's too much in my head OR where I allow my mind to wander when it's been a "too focused" kind of day....great doodles and word play appear!!....especially during staff meetings :)

  13. Great use for a blank surface. I draw on mine... (I have napkins tucked in my sketchbook).

  14. Brilliant response - but I do find napkins get all floppy about being written on! ;-)

  15. Hi there, have much enjoyed sharing in your photos, loved the napkin blog. Great little things, handily stored and ready to go for all sorts of uses - notes, phone numbers, checking the oil, impromptu picnics, emergency calls of nature in the wild.... the list goes on and on....

That's what I imagined an artist like you would do.
I have kept many a piece of napkin over the years, albeit no great drawings, doodles it's for me. ;-)
