Doll's Florist Shop
Lange Gasse
Trees of Schönborn Park
reflected in the store window.
My first encounter with this innovative florist
was quite accidental.
I was driving through Lange Gasse
on a late November night,
when I noticed an upside down Christmas tree
in their store window.
The creativity displayed in those windows
has drawn me back there again and again.

Reflection
The house reflected in the shop window
of a flower shop on Josefstädter Strasse
was the birthplace and family home of
Nobel Laureate Karl von Frisch (1886 - 1982),
who pioneered studies in bee communication and foraging.
Swiss poet Gottfried Keller spent
"the happiest days" of his life there in 1874 ,
as guest of von Frisch's mother, Marie von Frisch.

  1. Wow, what variety to these pictures. I love the dark, burnished gold of the letters.

It looks like quite an interesting city, with all the history evident in the photos.

I'll be back to visit again, I look forward to seeing more of this.

  3. I loved the Cinquecento reflected in the window.
Sort of a bonus - the image and another image too.
    Lovely pictures as usual.

  5. It's such fun finding great reflections and yours are superb. I do like the Pharmacy.
Looked like you had fun with the spring colours too.
The snow came then rain but frost tonight so yes I do hope the sprouted garden survives.

  6. Beautiful!
You showed us simply the best of Josefstadt and touched in a beautiful light.
Next time try a Viennese breakfast at Café Hummel,Josefstädter Straße. It's not that elegant as Demel, but in my opinion very typical for a coffeehouse.

  8. @ Lavinia Ladyslipper:
    Welcome! :-)
The 8th District (Josefstadt begins right behind City Hall) is both quaint and vibrant at the same time.
I am looking forward to seeing you again.

    @ My Melange:
I love nothing more than walking in the city during the blue and golden hours. The light gives a whole other dimension to its environs. Moments like that illuminated bowfront may happen only once in a blue moon.

    @ Elizabeth:
The Cinquecento is reflected in an Italian restaurant's window after all! :-) I used to drive a Cinquecento Familiare azzurro (that is a station wagon) in Rome.

    @ Ann:
Oh yes, wouldn't an exchange be nice, you get to walk around my city and me barefoot on your beaches? *sigh*

    @ Barbara:
Reflections are the photographer's bread and butter, aren't they? In environs like the Josefstadt they underline the enchanted feeling one experiences while walking around there.
I hope your spring weather lives up to expectations from now on! :-)

    @ Lilly:
Thank you, I feel really honoured hearing your reaction. I must confess that I have collected a great many images of Josefstadt and none reflect its soul more than those taken in the late evening light. I took me quite a while to get this post up because I tried to convey what I felt walking around those streeets.

I will have to get to Café Hummel in time for breakfast soon! Thank you.

    @ Paris Breakfast:
I feel really gratified that you are saying this, thank you. ;-)

  9. Oh I love your themes.

And I especially love the old Pharmacy. Our old family Pharmacy was started, not as long ago as this one. But in the 1800's.

And it's been in our family for 46 years.
