October Morning on the New Blue Danube

Early Morning at
the New Danube

The Danube river waters
pass through Vienna in
four river beds.
From West to East, they are called:
The Danube Channel
The Danube,
The New Danube, and
The Old Danube.
Of course, there's also the river Wien.
Lots of water and many bridges.

Here's a map of Vienna and
here
an article about
"Vienna and the water".

  1. You love Autumn, don't you?
The sun on the water making sparkles is one of my favourite things in the world!
Do people swim in the Danube?
    Is it clean water?

Oh yes, I do, when the sun's out, that is! :-)
This past summer I saw at right this spot in the first picture a lone swimmer, crossing the river. There are several beach areas by the Danube, where people swim, so I guess it is clean.

  3. Gosh the Danube really is blue!

I don't like Autumn at all. In fact I really don't like it at all. Once we have got through the winter solstice I start feeling better, especially once January 2nd is here! Then it's all looking for snowdrops and daffodils coming through.

I am thinking I must change my posting as one of June's chickens has died and I promised to do an in memorium for her.

  5. It is wonderful to know more about your city's river system, Merisi, thank you.

Rivers are more often than not responsible for the foundation of a city.

I am particularly interested in the Wien (Veen, you see I know how to pronounce it), from which Vienna took its name.

Needless to say I am also fascinated by my own rivers, the Thames and the Thames tributaries.

    :))

  6. LORENZOTHELLAMA:
I fell in love with autumn at the East Coast, where September means perfect summer weather without the humidity of the subtropical summer months and then October, the leaves turning slowly golden and then, with the first frost, red, brilliantly blue skies and temperatures still very mild, sometimes lasting into November. No, for me there's no better time of the year (the same in the Italian South, from Rome on downwards toward Sicily.
    So sorry about the hen!

  7. LORI LYNN:
Isn't it lovely, with the morning dew still on the petals?

    SALLY CRAWFORD FROM LONDON:
    You are welcome!
I will write more about the Wien river when I learn more about it.
Are there even cities without rivers?

  10. MAALIE:
Which Viennese are you referring to? ;-)
See, this is what happens when I do something in a hurry: the subconscious raises its ugly head and lets me use "fall" instead of my beloved autumn, as my favorite poets call it. A Freudian slip, er, fall?

    PARIS PARFAIT:
    You are welcome! :-)
