Concert for Europe at Schönbrunn Park

Walking to the concert
from the West (Hietzing) entrance of the Park.

These photos reflect only a small selection
of the many different areas of the large Park.

I kept to a to the left of the main walkway,
where only a few people ventured on their way
to the concert stage under the Gloriette.

It was around 8pm, the "Blue Hour",
the waning daylight painted everything in a warm soft light,
and the air was scented by the fragrance of Linden blossoms
and the perfume of roses.
Sheer magic.

  1. What a beautiful place! Thanks for sharing it. I also figured out how I stumbled upon you. We have a shared interest in the adventures of Maryam in Marrakesh. ;-)

  2. Ah! How gorgeous! There is something completely compelling about arching-tree-lined pathways... I always want to go down them - the mystery of what they lead to perhaps?

Blue-hour lighting and flower-scented air can only heighten an already enchanting looking experience...

    Thank you!

  4. I'd love a "go" on that tree chopping contraption!
    Is that building a palace?
In the last shot it looks like a cardboard cutout of a drawing!

The old six degrees of separations have been brought down to one mouse click. It's a small world! ;-)

Tara, one could spend an entire day walking under arching trees at the great gardens of Schönbrunn Palace, and several more exploring all those other tree lined paths.

With a little planning it is not too difficult to get tickets to the Vienna Philharmonics at the Goldenen Musikvereinssaal, which I would recommand to serious music lovers like you are. The Europe concerts are great fun, though (even in the rain, as last year *g*).

Yes, this is Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of the Emperors. The last shot shows the side of the Palace to the west.

I will now put two links with this blog entry, both enable you to click through more pictures of the Palace, the park, and the Gloriette, which sits high above both.

Now that you mention it, maybe I shall try to climb that tree chopping contraption! *laugh* Stay tuned for pictures! :-)

    Ilva:
You would enjoy letting your (camera) eye wander around there!

Il Palazzo ed i tanti diversi giardini sono davvero stupendi.
And great for exercise, I might add. Many I time I walked all the way up to the Gloriette, without having planned, only because the desire to return up there overcame me. I haven't visited the zoo yet (so many things to see, so little time), but have been told it is also quite interesting (and located in one corner of the park). :-)

My pictures can only begin to tell of the beauty of this magic place. Walking back home around midnight, through the then moonlit park, I wouldn't have been surprised to encounter Oberon or Titiana. ;-)
Besides the beauty of the setting and the concert ifself, what really touched my heart was that the Viennese take it as a matter of course to take along large picknick baskets with bottles of wine and whatnot, beach chairs, and the like, and not being frisked by security guards. They are allowed to feel they own the place.
