Christmastime in Vienna
A few of my favorite Things

Checking the List
Demel's at Kohlmarkt

Christmas Market
In the shadow of St. Stephen's Cathedral

Vermischte Warenhandlkung
Weihburggasse

Local souvenirs I'd love to load my coach with:
*
D e m e l at Kohlmarkt 14
Royal and Imperial Confectioners
:
Candied Violets in a pretty handmade box, Demel chocolate squares
to make their famous hot chocolate at home, Christmas and ginger bread cookies,
or the exquisite Demeltorte, among many other choices
*
Austrian handicrafts at the Christmas market
at St. Stephen's Square
*
Vermischte Warenhandlung at Weihburggasse 16:
Upon setting foot in this delightful offbeat shop,
located in a beautiful courtyard only steps from Franziskanerplatz,
you'll feel as if taken back to the truly good old times.
The owners offer a treasure trove of quality gifts
throughout the year and at Christmastime
an wide selection of handblown painted tree ornaments
from traditional purveyors in Europe -
Their Bookshop right on Weihburggasse
also offers unique greeting cards along with
choice coffee table and reprinted antique illustrated books
(you'll love their shop windows and the store interior, too)

    1. It is beautiful, Mersad, the artificial illumination brings some light even on dreary days.
Hope you all are having a wonderful Advent season!

    1. I need to remember to ask a coachman (or coachwoman, we got those too) about these horse-ear-warmers. All the horses wear them.

  4. Using that arch to frame the shot is really beautiful, and my favourite shot of these.

My mother loved to collect snow globes, but those are bigger than the ones she had!

  9. Just as Christmas should be, not the commercialized event we have here. I love the look of the shops and the simplicity too. Reminds me of when I lived in Germany in the 80's , thanks Merisi.
