Northern Lights
Winter in Vienna

Northern Lights over Vienna
Föhn winds were chasing clouds and birds,
under a sheaf of clouds scintillating in translucent pastels

View from the Upper Belvedere
The southwestern sky was displaying
a light show I had never observed before

Eastward, all looked calm,
only a sort of afterglow hinted
at the atmospheric drama in the southwestern sky

    1. Thank you, Dina!
I am grateful I was up there at the Belvedere when this atmospheric phenomenon happened. It was mesmerising, the pictures don't do justice to what my eyes observed.

    1. Too bad there are no ephemerides that would show with certainty dates and locations of such events. Those lights are often elusive, even if one travels to parts of the world where they are supposed to be appear regularly.

    1. I dare say the colors were even stronger, more brilliant, a photograph really cannot do it justice. i was an eerie atmosphere all around, as if the earth stood still.

  7. So dramatic! I did not realize you had this aurora borealis in Vienna. Very exciting and rare sort of beauty, and you caught it perfectly.

    1. Skies and birds, I often look up and observe them, but a sky like this was a first for me.
I tried to find any mention of this online, alas, was not successful.

  8. Merisi, this cloud formation is dramatic to the max! How extraordinary to have been there to see it...and to have your camera along as well.

(Do check on that September 10, 2015 date, though. Perhaps I have skipped some months while I was tending to my knitting?)
