The Mocca Club at Wienzeile
Remembrance of Things Past

Once upon a time

there was this beautiful place
where they brewed really good coffee -

a favorite hang-out
not only of students from
the nearby Vienna Technical University

Turkish coffee and other delights, now only a memory -
this happens even in Vienna where time's supposed to stand still

“Remembrance of things past
is not necessarily the remembrance
of things as they were.”
Marcel Proust

  5. One of the old reviews gives some of the flavor - the red, green and white teas and 'heaven for lovers'. The photos show a whiff of Biedermeier. I'd have loved it.

"Dutzende verschiedene Sorten an Kaffee, Grünen-, Roten- oder Weißen Tee standen zur Auswahl, ein Paradies für den Liebhaber..."

    1. It was an extraordinary place, it had so much charm and outstanding coffee.
I felt sad when I realized it's gone.

  6. Merisi, this remembrance made me happy. As you know, I am also one who likes exploring the currency of now, but honors the beauty of memories.

  8. What a lovely memory. Things as they were or things as we remember them. In this case, it is all good.

    1. It had a bit, no, quite a lot of Baudelaire's "là, tout n'est qu'ordre et beauté,
      Luxe, calme et volupté."

    1. When I am in Italy, even with all that great coffee there, after a few days, I start missing the Viennese coffee houses.

  15. Always sad to see places shutter up :( And then always interesting to see what replaces them.
