Vienna in the Time of Puppenkrapfen
Coffee and Donut, anyone?

Puppenkrapfen
Puppenkrapfen at Demel may well be compared
to the first flowers that herald the arrival of spring,
only that these delicious morsels
promise a carnival season in full swing

Puppenkrapfen
How to pronounce it?
Alright, here we go,
everybody pronounce:
Poop-pen-crap-fen!
You are not laughing, are you?

While a Faschingskrapfen, carnival donut,
is usually the size of a donut,
the Puppenkrapfen is a smaller version,
dainty enough for Puppen,
the German word for "dolls"

One of the cutest food names
I have encountered here,
and one of the most delicious morsels, too

  4. Oh Merisi, these sweet little morsels look delicious. I bet that I could not eat just one. Two might not be enough, either!

It was lovely to see your repost of that Viennese snow white out. The photographs are splendid story tellers.

  5. They look very, very tempting. Somehow I imagine they're worlds more tasty than what passes for doughnuts here...

  6. Dear Merisi – I like the sound of “poop-pen-crap-fen”. You made me hungry and made me want to return Vienna. I loved Vienna when I visited about 15 years ago.

In the previous post, the frozen Vienna is so beautiful. I’d like to walk along the river in person bundled in the coat with a camera. Stay warm.
