Christmastime in Vienna
Waking up to almost Winter Wonderland

Snowflakes started swirling
in mid-afternoon yesterday,

by evening's fall, a white blanket
covered the parked cars in the street,

accumulated on the hemlock tree, the bird house,
the lawn of my neighbour's garden -
I went to sleep wishing for winter wonderland

To my delight,
Vienna woke to sunshine this morning,
and yes, the gift of snow still on the ground

  1. How wonderful! It probably won't last but isn't the first snow just pure magic??

  2. Merisi, I think that I might not be the only one who still holds that childlike delight in taking that first morning peek out the window to see what an overnight snowfall might have delivered.

(I also admit to actually waking up during snowy nights for an even earlier window snowfall vigil...there is something about that glow and hush.)

I had an involuntary peek of the half moon high in the sky at 3:00 AM last night. ;-)

  5. Having grown up in Texas where any snow caused total bewilderment, raising my family in Montana was the most fun ever -- every winter, white with all that magical snow! Love your captures for the day, Meris, and the memories they brought!!

    1. I yes, snow is magical! I remember one winter in Rome when a hailstorm left a white blanket all over the city. We put on our rubber boots and walked through Villa Borghese park all the way down to the Vatican. By that time the white wonder was all slush, but still so much fun to wade through, the next best thing to real snow.

  8. Oh, so pretty. I love the long tree shadows in the first one.
That "Small World" song really does get stuck in the brain.
It goes on and on and on and on....... (:0)
