Meanwhile, in Vienna
What's not to love about high fog and spam?

St. Stephen's Cathedral
A glimpse of the steeple
from Kärntner Strasse
at 2:10 PM yesterday

High fog and greyish light -
today, though, bound to my desk, grudgingly! -
the sun's out bright and shiny

Coffee, anyone?
At 8:00 AM this morning,
no sunshine yet, and the coffee pot
empty, already

Kärntner Strasse
Yesterday afternoon

Are you ready
for Christmastime in Vienna?

And here, a bonmot from my spam folder:
"A fascinating discussion is worth comment.
I believe that you ought to write more about this topic,
it may not be a taboo subject but typically people
don't speak about these topics. To the next! Best wishes!!"
On Strudlhof Steps in November

Ah, the kindness of strangers! ;-)

  1. Where do they get this stuff???? I've gotten where I don't read a word anymore. Just mark it spam and off I go.

Lovely photos and I always a look forward to Christmas in Vienna.

  2. I just thought of something. Maybe spam is like ants at picnics. Always there and annoying, but you still go on picnics.

    1. Sam,
truth is, I have had practically no spam comments in the almost two years I did away with CAPTCHA on my blog (I got so frustrated with trying to type the right CAPTCHA words on other blogs' comment boxes, I decided to spare my readers the hardship).

This one slipped through, otherwise, Blogger's spam filters are very effective!

  4. Ha, ha. I get similar linguistic pearls in my spam folder. I especially love this bit "...it may not be a taboo subject but typically people don't speak about these topics." Yes, we established many times here, that some of your posts are very sinful, Merisi (the cakes, the coffee, the naked mannequins) ;-).
The last photo made me think of the Nutcracker music and the Sugar Plum Fairy (and by "nutcracker" I mean a device used to crack the shells of walnuts and other nuts and by "fairy" I mean "a magical fairy", not one of the British English meanings of "fairy" - don't want to get the spam comment about taboo subjects) ;-)

    1. May only the right fairies and real nutcrackers be around when we need them! :-)

  6. Fog here this morning as well. At least it was not so bright crossing the long bridge that I had to wear shades.

  8. Great captures and I have to admit that I do love the fog -- if I don't have to drive in it!! Where do these spammers come from and WHY???? Hope your week is going well! Enjoy!

    1. Silvia,
I wondered that too: who in the world has ever brought in business by spamming?
      That's really beyond comprehension. ;-)

    1. The character of a city is very much at display at Christmastime, in my experience.
My memories of Roman Christmastime are so different from other cities, I can even smell and hear some cities (I remember Rome: burnt almonds and red candied apples at Piazza Navona, Vienna's the city of roasted chestnuts and hot mulled wine).

    1. Truth is, I make my coffee in an old-fashioned, almost antique Alessi stovetop coffee maker (what's the saying about photos obfuscating the truth?). ;-)

  14. Am sure Vienna is more dressed for Christmas than LA is -although there are certain streets that are very festive:)
