Gustav Klimt's Neighborhood
Sleeping Beauty in leafy Hietzing

Sleeping Beauty
It must have been some time ago

that this beauty
fell into a deep slumber.

In my imagination,
it was a hundred years ago,

after it had seen Gustav Klimt walk by,
on his last evening stroll.

If and how it will ever awaken
from its long sleep one dare not muse,

one can only hope it does not meet a cruel fate.

Photographed a short walk from where Gustav Klimt
had his studio during the last six years of his life,
in Hietzing, Vienna's 13th District

  1. Is this amazing place empty?
Oh what a dream to live in a place like that.
    Lovely.

    1. Yes, Jeanette, it is empty, abandoned, which is a bit unusual, given the neighborhood. I dare not think why.

  3. It's so sad that this lovely place is empty with ivy growing over windows etc., but I'm appreciating the dappled colours and the dream-like quality you've captured here.

  6. When I lived in a town I loved to have my windows covered and hidden behind growing things.

    1. I lived in a house with an ivy-covered facade. Needs to be cut back three times a year, otherwise it takes over every nook, cranny and window! ;-)

    1. I make sure to pass by the house whenever I can, at any time of the day or night.
My heart starts beating faster when I see it is still there. ;-)

  9. Merisi, as always, the things you do with color and perspective... and shadow. Truly marvelous.
If Gustav Klimt could see your photographs, you would inspire him to...... become a painter!

  11. I grew up opposite this house and its empty since almost 30 years. Every time I pass by I hope to win money in the lottery to buy and renovate this building!
