Coffee With Angels
On the Left Bank of the Vienna River

Questions About Angels
"Of all the questions you might want to ask
about angels, the only one you ever hear
is how many can dance on the head of a pin
."
Billy Collins

Have you ever wondered
what angels do

besides giggling
about the utter silliness

of even trying
to stand on a pin?

Thinking about
having a cup of heavenly coffee Melange?
Right down here
in Vienna.

Saturday Morning
at Café Savoy

Savoy opens late
in the afternoon and into
the wee hours of the morning,
except Saturdays, when
you can have your coffee-fix
also in the morning.
Linke Wienzeile
Next to Naschmarkt
6th District

The first three lines
are quoted from
Billy Collins' poem "Questions About Angels.
The following silliness
is mine and is,

  1. Merisi, I am so enjoying seeing these "reposts." I also thank you again for having introduced me to Billy Collins' poetry.

I always think that it's good to be on the lookout for angels! xo

  3. Exquisite!
How funny that both you and Sue of A Brush with color are quoting Billy Collins today!

  4. I remember this post! I just returned from a 2-month European trip, one month of which was spent in beautiful Vienna (in and out - 1 month in total). I managed to see many of the cafes and restaurants you post about, including the Savoy! (Although a friend and I went in the evening after an opera at the Theater an der Wien, so it was more of a pub). Thank you so much for all your inspirational posts, and for introducing me to so many great venues, as well as literature! (I picked up "The World of Yesterday" by Stefan Zweig, after being entranced by something you'd posted, including a couple other Viennese novels in translation from Shakespeare & Co.). I'm missing this city enormously, so these posts of yours are great to wake up to. :) I'm planning to move to Vienna hopefully in the next year - I miss it already!

  5. Oh wow..and I thought I knew most of the coffee houses.
Truly scrumptious decor. Cannot wait to drop in there in October.
Thanks even more for this divine ED poem, new to me. Yummy.

  8. Vienna must be awash with coffee. A different one every morning.
