Afternoon with Cumulonimbus Clouds
Before the Storm

Lonesome Bird
watching the storm clouds roll in

*

The wind begun to rock the grass
With threatening tunes and low, -
He flung a menace at the earth,
A menace at the sky.

The leaves unhooked themselves from trees
And started all abroad;
The dust did scoop itself like hands
And throw away the road.

The wagons quickened on the streets,
The thunder hurried slow;
The lightning showed a yellow beak,
And then a livid claw.

The birds put up the bars to nests,
The cattle fled to barns;
There came one drop of giant rain,
And then, as if the hands

That held the dams had parted hold,
The waters wrecked the sky,
But overlooked my father's house,
Just quartering a tree.

  2. My first digital camera was a Lumix. I still use it from time to time. It's a great little piece. I love the storm clouds.

  3. I love the storm clouds too. My little Lumix does me pretty well too.

    It seems I'm always apologizing for so long between visits.
    I have needed a bit of a break fromcommenting on everyones's blogs.
    Too many hours fiddling on my computer has created a flabby brain and many other parts of my body as well....
    All that to say that I may not comment but I do look and enjoy your fabulous photos Merisi.
    Have a great rest of the week.

  4. Loree,
    I often carry only a 50mm or 85mm lens and the Lumix if I want to capture comething beyond the range of those lenses. Did you notice how distinctive the shape of the little bird is? Amazing for a $200 camera.

    Photowannabe,
    I am in awe of the skills you show with your Lumix. You take the outstanding pictures. You are a true master of your camera!

    No need to apologize, Sue! I think sharing your world on your blog is already a great gift of time. I truly appreciate each and every comment, but I also understand the limits we all work with. I feel very lucky having you as a reader.

  7. Simona,
    thank you! :-)

    Karen in KT,
    mine is an older model, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5, but still, fantastic camera, great lens. My daughter owns the newer TZ7, and a friend of mine made beautiful pictures with the newer Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38, a real workhorse and lots of zoom that actually delivers (i.e. even at what in analog days would have been sensational 450mm!). Check out his work here.

  8. There is little better in life than when a storm is moving in with rain and wind.

  9. Zosia,
    thanks!

    Charles Gramlich,
    I was hoping it would not hit until I was out of the tree-lined country roads. ;-)

  10. I love the weather I have experienced in Vienna after only 1 week of living here. The down pour we had last evening was amazing.
