Roses and Macarons

After a day of relentless rains,
the sun broke through the clouds
just as she had begun to set,

and in the very moment
I had left Dommayer's Café and walked out
through their beautiful garden.

I caught the roses with the raindrops
in the light of
a midsummer's eve,

minutes before the evening sank
into the Lapis Lazuli of the "Blue Hour".

These macarons
have graced my home for a month now.

They are so beautiful,
I cannot bear to eat them,
so I gave them a place of honour
and to my delight,
they keep nicely,

making me smile
when they greet me in the morning

    1. Almost three years later,
the macarons still sit in their little porcelain box.
Again, it was a rainy day which ended with the sun coming through.
I am sure the roses in Dommayer's garden are as beautiful as ever.
Good to know that some things do not change, isn't it?
      A wonderful Sunday, my friends,
and a special greeting to those of you who have visited this post before.
      Affectionately,
      Merisi

  8. Such restraint with your macaroons! But I can understand when I see the photos, because they're the perfect finishing touch.

  9. Mmmm...if I had taken such a pretty picture, I know I would have rewarded myself with eating the macarons!

  10. Well Merisi, these photos' gentle combinations of delicate greens and whisper pale pinks are so lovely.

I think that they will begin to help the visual memories part of my brain begin to erase pink/green clothing connotations that date back to Virginia in the late 50's and very early 60's. I do believe that you know what I mean.

Thank you so much for starting this transformation.

Please do not let those macarons rest for too much longer, even if they do rest exquisitely in that box.

    xo

  13. No way could I leave them there. I would have lasted about one day and they'd be gone. The photo is so charming.

  14. Beautiful as ever. Lovely garden, lovely raindrops on the leaves ... and beautiful little porcelain box for your macarons. I love it! It's like an altar to "sweetness!"

  15. I too agree, for I always want to use the same grande words to describe all of the enchanting beauty that your blog continueously delivers. Just always so lovely and it desires my heart to drift away from what I would dream to do, or to partake of. I do not know if I could have left those delectable macaroons for so long, yet they certainly are beautiful. Palest of pinks, cream yellows, white and shades of green and a hint of periwinkle are my constant favorite colours.

  18. Merisi, this series of photos is charming and such a delight to my eyes.
Your artistic talent with the Macaroons is stunning. I love the little porcellian box you arranged them in. Pastels and soft roses. Wonderful.

  21. I wish our summer still had these pink and green tones. It has gone all gray and sodden, sadly.

  25. With those luscious pinks and greens, we could make you queen of the garden. Knowing how delightful macarons of rose and pistache can be makes this vignette even more sweet. I think that the still life you have created may even surpass the joy of eating (devouring) those macarons!

    1. Sara,
I am far from an expert in macarons, but from the few I have tasted, I liked by far the ones at Demel's the best. They were not overly sweet and had very fine taste.

  27. Merisi, let me enter the loop.

The macarons and the roses and all your poetic delights offer refreshment, and continue to delight.

Oh...let me give an update. It is very hot and humid in NYC this week. So much for poetry.

    1. Thank you so much, Frances!
We had rain the other night and for half a day, a couple of cool nights too.
Today, the sun is back in full force, thank you heaven not that strength-robbing humidity you are suffering from.

  29. Merisi -- umm. How does one quite say it?
Those macarons -- if they were sitting here at my place they would have also lasted for a quantity of time that begins with the letter "m".
Only, it would not be a month.
    More like a MINUTE!
    How could you resist?
Great pics, as ever and always.

See, as I have heard over and over again, I am a bit crazy about photography - going as far as not eating something if I think I could take a picture of it (I have more than once photographed some really gorgeous looking piece of cake and only later repented for not having eating it, once it was out of reach).

  31. I was trying to imagine how the two would go together. I see the pinks have it :). I only heard of those kind of macaroons a few months ago! The kind I am most familiar with are chunky coconut mounds dipped in chocolate. They are delicious but not even an iota as elegant as the kind you have among the roses :).

    1. Same here, coconut macarons was all I knew until I moved to Vienna and started reading watercolor artist Carol Gillot's blog, "Paris Breakfasts" (careful, she is one great temptress!).

  32. Such lyrical roses -- and while the macarons are gorgeous, I'm not sure how I feel about sweets with a shelf life like that...

  33. Dear Vicki,
don't worry, they are not poisoned like Snow White's apple!
That those macarons have so nicely dried is adventitious, not due to suspicious additives! ;-)
