Sunday Morning in the City

Morning Light
reflected off the windows
on narrow Naglergasse lane

A family on a Sunday outing
stops under a fountain
of the Imperial Palace
covered by construction cloth
painted with a likeness
of the fountain statue
Michaelerplatz

Where to now?
A bicycle rider
ponders his next move
under posters of a Frida Kahlo
exhibition at the Kunstforum
Freyung

Two white sun umbrellas
stand sentinel while a gaggle of
café tables and chairs
play being invisible
at Freyung Square

Was that you
walking from Michaelerplatz
to Habsburgergasse?
Reflection in a mirror
of Bühlmayer's shop window

  1. Beautiful! I love the fact that the likeness of the statue was painted on the tarp while it is under construction. I love Austria! Can't wait to go back.

  5. I am so appreciative of this blog. Coffee and Architecture are two of my favorite things, and then there's bicycling.
I am in love with Vienna and I enjoy the work you are doing on the blog.
    Thanks a lot.

  7. What an amazing eye you have, Merisi. It is always a pleasure to see your lovely Vienna through your lens. I especially love those old blue doors and the painting of the fountain statue. Love the blue dress and white peonies, too!

Thank you for sharing such loveliness with us.

  9. I wonder what becomes of all those carefully painted/designed construction clothes when the construction is finished? They would make a wonderful exhibit...somewhere....with a lot of empty space...

  10. Oui, yes it was me!
I walked from Paris to check on the whipped cream you're always going on about...wanted to do a taste comparison, even though I don't normally eat whipped cream..
Yr photos make me dream :)

  11. Your photos, as always, continue to inspire in me a sense of [what is the word?].... almost ANTISEPTIC beauty. A pristine world.
A place where walls, and doors, facades, windows -- all is poetry.

  12. Looks like someone needed to get in that door badly. The scuffs do add character though.
The artwork on the workcloth is quite amazing. At first glance I thought it was the real thing. Great series of pictures.
