  1. Beautiful yellow fields! I never thought about it, but I guess Austria makes wine? Which Austrian wine is popular?

  7. Space as far as the eye can reach. What wonderful views and photos. The bright yellow I wonder about. We have similar fields but a lot later in the summer and they are rape seed fields. Is this rape seed too?

  8. The third picture with the interchanging strips of colors made me pause and daydream. How breath-taking the landscape is there! What crop is so yellow?

  16. JEANNETTE STGERMAIN,
Austria has several regions which produce great wines! My favorites are Grüner Veltliner from the Weinviertel and Wachau regions and Zweigelt from around Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland and Retz, Weinviertel. While all these regions are within an hour's drive from Vienna, grapes are also growing inside the city limits, producing some excellent wines.
here is the link to my July 2007 post about Austrian Wines, "Grüner Veltliner, Federspiel, Zweigelt, Anyone?". From there you'll also find a link to a New York Times article by R. W. APPLE Jr., about Austrian wines.

  17. FYI:
Rape blossoms paint the fields yellow. Rapeseed oil is called Canola oil in the USA and Canada.

  26. I am always interested in looking at the farm fields of other countries to see what is growing there. Patchwork quilts are everywhere in farmers' minds as they rotate their crops.
